Dee joined us early this year and quickly became an important member and friend. He has been a pleasure to coach and has advanced very quickly in his short time with us. His willingness to learn and his motivation to learn is infectious. Coach Rico has spent a lot of time with Dee, and loves his passion for the sport. Even more so is his true understanding of the bigger picture - the positive impact Crossfit can have on anybody willing to try. According to Coach Rico, Dee is one to watch for the future! Dee sure is putting in the work, and loves to learn - what an assset to our CFTH community! Here is what he has to say about CFTH: “Crossfit Tay Ho has been a significant part of my daily routine as well as my life. I didn’t expect to love crossfit and the box that much, but the energy and the community brought to me are phenomenal.” How long have you been doing Crossfit/how long at CFTH?
I started Crossfit almost a year ago through a foreign friend. At first it was just some short workouts to burn some extra calories as alternative options beside my daily push/pull/leg workouts. The more I started doing Crossfit the more I felt fun and alive so I started to dig deeper into it by myself for 4 months then decided to come to CFTH. It’s been now almost 6 months. CFTH is my first and only box I ever stepped in, like a first love! Favorite movement/WOD and why? I used to be afraid of all the movements, even running, but for me Crossfit is never about looking for your comfort zones. Every WOD is challenging for everybody, all levels, because it is about giving your best in every movement and every second. I just simply find all the movements fascinating, so much to learn! Something positive Crossfit has taught you? Crossfit comes to me like the rain pouring into a desert, I was so bored doing bodybuilding workouts day by day desperately looking for a dream ripped body. Then Crossfit changed how I defined “Fitness”. I eat big, train hard, and eventually just felt great after doing a WOD, which makes me extremely positive everyday. Any advice for someone just starting? I would say “Come to the box, magic happens”, believe in your coaches, the process and just enjoy the company of others going through “hell” with you! How long have you been in Hanoi? I am from here, being a local and training with expats everyday is amazing. We are sharing ideas, experiences and culture all over the world which makes the box much much interesting to me. Favorite thing to do in Hanoi (outside of Crossfit)? I would say the food here are tremendous, never get bored of the foods. Favorite thing to eat in Hanoi? Bun Cha, Pho, Banh Cuon, Banh My, Hotpot!

If you haven't met Lindsey, you need to get to a 9am class and introduce yourself. She is determined, consistent and supportive member of CFTH for many years, and just a cool person who you want to be friends with! Lindsey holds herself and others to high standards, and does what she can to reach her goals. Not only is she a strong athlete inside the box, she takes what she does and applies it to sports outside the box like playing soccer and running. You can absolutely count on Lindsey (and her whole family) to cheer you on during a tough workout. Lindsey also spent a few years as an admin team member, helping keep the box running - she is one of the reasons we are still here! Here is what Lindsey has to say about Crossfit Tay Ho: "Moving from Bangkok to Hanoi in February 2016, I had a tougher than expected time finding friends and feeling settled in a new city. After a few months, a friend convinced me to try out Crossfit. (I had always been active, but I was extremely nervous and intimidated about starting up a new activity like Crossfit which seemed so intense and hard.). The minute I walked into CFTH, I knew I had found "my people". CFTH is more than a box, it is a family. And what is really cool is that we are a family with such diversity - nationality, age, ability, etc. I love that we are all a bit different - and that is what makes CFTH unique, interesting, and special. Going to CFTH is also the grounding, positive experience in the beginning of my day. As long as I workout in the morning, I feel like the rest of my day will go well. I seriously don't know what I would do here in Hanoi without CFTH!" How long have you been doing Crossfit/how long at CFTH? I started doing crossfit at CFTH in April 2016. Favorite movement/WOD and why? I have a few favorites - handstand push-ups (any overhead pressing movements, really), deadlifts, double-unders, and even though I'm not great at them - gymnastics work like handstand walks, pull-ups, and ring work. More than anything, I love the variety of all the Crossfit movements and that even if you are good at something, you always have room to improve. In that sense, it never gets easier - you just (hopefully) keep getting stronger and faster. I like that. Something positive Crossfit has taught you? Crossfit has taught me that I am a whole lot tougher and stronger than I give myself credit for. Also, I am extremely proud to be part of such an amazing community - especially all of these strong and powerful women! Sure, we compete against each other, but we are also really supportive and only want each other to do their best. It is super cool. Any advice for someone just starting? Even if you are sore, just keep coming to class! Even after 3+ years, I am tired/sore almost every day! Moving through the workouts is actually quite helpful in releasing some of that lactic acid. With that said, of course, let your body rest and recover. But don't spend too much time away, or else you will lose your momentum. How long have you been in Hanoi? Since February 2016 - 3 1/2 years! Yikes! Favorite thing to do in Hanoi (outside of Crossfit)? I love to ride my bike around the neighborhood - just checking out the sites and life around Tay Ho. I am also a homebody, so many of my weekends are spent at home spending time with my husband and 2 daughters. Sharing a bottle (or two) of wine with some of my girlfriends is also a favorite past-time. Favorite thing to eat in Hanoi? I love going to eat cơm bình dân (which translates to something like "economy rice" or "affordable rice lunch"). You are given a plate of rice (which I always have them take 1/2 off the plate!) and then you get to point and choose which other items you'd like to eat - greens, pork ribs, fish, pickled veggies, peanuts. My plate is not complete without a dousing of the fish sauce/lime/chili sauce they offer on the side. It is delicious and costs only about $2. Amazing! |
